The site and building design of a modest cluster of hospitality and production spaces programmed for an Oregon winery.
A paradoxical fiction that frames, mediates, orients, and delights
Landscape design of a suburban residential edge that abuts conservation open space. Offers a selection of interventions that do the MOST with the LEAST.
A kinetic roof pond which dynamically deploys a passive thermal conditioning strategy. SEE WEB LINK FOR ANIMATION
A parametric market hall. A specific mathematical logic generates member elements to support, span, and brace a structural homage to 13th century aisle barns.
The design and analysis of a trussed roof structure. Digital analysis and evaluation tools were employed to size members and to specify joints.
An exploration of rural development. A theoretical intervention in a Eugene wetland proposes a slow, responsive, and adaptive approach to living and working on the fringe of the Urban Growth Boundary.
A Portland art academy for visiting Finnish fellows. The program focuses on the production of built works.
A non profit distillery that energizes local nightlife while making artist space available for employee fellows.
A reference handout that documents and diagrams the basic mechanical principals that inform the design of operable architectural apparatuses.
An investigation of the Collaborative Life Sciences Building in Portland, Oregon. The analysis focuses on the relationship between architectural details and emerging trends in GREEN BUILDING
An investigation of an Alaskan super insulated passive solar house. The analysis focuses on the relationship between architectural details and emerging trends in GREEN BUILDING
PROOF OF CONCEPT: DIVA for grasshopper. A rigged analysis surface is optimized for solar insolation. The results simply confirm intuition
A lashed jungle tower. Site constraints limited member lengths and sizes. Optimization algorithms minimized lateral displacements generated by KARAMBA structural analysis. Iterative alternatives were comparatively tested.
A student residential design-build program directed by Professor Rob Thallon. I participated in the Fall design studio and have since continued on as a web designer, community liaison, and outreach coordinator.
The design of a simple canopy used to compare the finite element analysis programs Multiframe and KARAMBA. Extensive hand calculations control the findings.
A building form driven by the connection between replicated individual private spaces which collectively engage a public performance space. The building serves a community striving to create "noble citizens"
There is a timeless way of being, it holds a restlessness that roots us in things wild and unkempt. There is a savage longing lingering, we yearn to be feral and free. People live well when significantly invested in the context of their landscapes. My work seeks to explore the Contemporary Primitive spirit found here in the Urban Wilderness.
